This book recognises the 150th anniversaries of the opening of the High Level Bridge and the Central Station. The magnificent and historic bridge was built under Robert Stephenson’s supervision and was the last link in the direct line from London to Edinburgh. The station was designed by The Newcastle architect, John Dobson with Robert Stephenson, as Chief Engineer to the Railway, responsible for the track layout and all structures over and under it. The book gives a well researched and detailed account of the building of these two structures, still in regular and heavy use after 150 years.
